Earthquake Jolts Delhi-NCR With 4.4 Magnitude, Panic Spreads Amid Rain; Epicenter in Jhajjar

A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck North India early this morning, with strong tremors felt across Delhi, NCR, Haryana, western Uttar Pradesh, parts of Rajasthan, and Punjab. The epicenter was reported to be in Jhajjar, Haryana, just about 50 kilometers from Delhi, and the quake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers, increasing the intensity of ground shaking.The tremors were felt around 9:05 AM, lasting nearly 10 to 12 seconds, causing panic among residents—especially those in high-rise buildings in Noida, Gurugram, Ghaziabad, and Greater Noida. In Gurugram’s tehsil area, ceiling fans were seen shaking, and many rushed out of buildings amid ongoing heavy rainfall that had already disrupted normal life.Experts warn that due to the shallow depth, buildings in the 5–10 km radius around the epicenter could be at risk if structurally weak. Though no major damage has been reported yet, authorities remain alert for aftershocks, which could follow with lesser magnitude.Delhi, being in Seismic Zone IV, is particularly vulnerable. Citizens are advised to avoid elevators during quakes, move to open areas, and stay alert. The simultaneous impact of rain and tremors has added to public anxiety across the capital and nearby regions.
