Breaking: Rajasthan Government Introduces Bill to Regulate Coaching Centers Amid Student Suicide Concerns
The Rajasthan government has introduced a bill to regulate coaching centers and curb the arbitrary actions of coaching operators. In Rajasthan, the city of Kota is notorious for frequent news of student suicides, leading to increased scrutiny of coaching institutions. The newly proposed bill mandates that coaching centers with more than 50 students must be registered. These centers will be required to display the fee structure on their websites, and if a student leaves the coaching midway, the fee must be refunded within 10 days. Additionally, coaching centers will need to provide arrangements for yoga and meditation. The bill also includes provisions for penalties, including the seizure of property, if the rules are violated. A district-level committee will be formed to oversee these regulations, and a coaching center regulatory and monitoring authority will be established. While the opposition highlights some shortcomings in the bill, the government asserts that any suggestions received will be incorporated, including provisions for students aged 16 and above. These provisions were initially missing from the draft, but are now being added to ensure better regulation.
