Breaking: President Droupadi Murmu Raises Constitutional Questions Over SC Ruling on Bills | ABP NEWS

President Droupadi Murmu has raised significant questions regarding a recent Supreme Court judgment that imposed a time limit on the President and Governors to decide on pending bills. The move comes in response to the April 8 verdict, where the Supreme Court ruled that a decision on any bill must be taken within three months. In a rare move, the President has sent a Presidential Reference to the Supreme Court under Article 143 of the Constitution, asking 14 specific questions. The most critical among them: Can the Supreme Court set deadlines for the President or Governors on legislative matters? This action indirectly challenges the judiciary’s authority in directing the executive and constitutional heads. The Centre had hinted at this move after Home Minister Amit Shah and Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal met the President earlier this week. The questions raised focus on constitutional interpretation and separation of powers. By using a Presidential Reference instead of filing a review petition, the government seeks clarification without direct confrontation. Now, the Chief Justice will constitute a five-judge Constitution Bench to address these questions. The development marks a significant moment in India’s judicial and constitutional history, testing the balance between the executive and judiciary on legislative decision-making timelines.
