The Central Government is set to hold a press conference at 3:00 PM to address growing concerns and misinformation surrounding ethanol-blended petrol, particularly E20 fuel. Industry experts will join officials to clarify doubts regarding its impact on vehicle performance, fuel efficiency, and engine health. Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri recently acknowledged that E20 petrol may cause a slight reduction in mileage, though he emphasized that the effect depends on multiple factors. He also stated that ethanol improves engine acceleration and reduces knocking, noting that ethanol-based fuels are used in racing cars. However, critics and automotive experts argue that racing fuels differ significantly from regular E20 petrol and caution against making such comparisons. BPCL officials have acknowledged ethanol contains lower energy per litre, which can affect fuel economy.
