Breaking: Bihar Set for Two-Phase Assembly Polls; Election Commission to Declare Dates This Evening

The Election Commission is set to announce the dates for the Bihar Assembly elections today at 4 PM, with the press conference taking place at the Science Bhavan in Delhi. With the announcement, the model code of conduct will come into immediate effect. The current Bihar Assembly’s term ends on 22 November 2025, and the new legislature is expected to be formed by then. Political parties have requested that polling be conducted after the Chhath festival, making it likely that the elections will be held in two phases this year. Sources indicate that the first phase of voting may take place in the first week of November, followed by the second phase shortly after. Counting of votes is expected around 15 November, ensuring that the entire electoral process is completed before the Assembly’s term ends. This election will see key contests between the ruling NDA under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Mahagathbandhan, and emerging players like Prashant Kishor, with possible third-front attempts by Asaduddin Owaisi. Unlike the 2020 elections, which were held in three phases, this year’s elections are likely to be completed in two phases, reflecting the state’s law and order assessment and logistical considerations. All eyes are now on the official announcement at 4 PM.
