Border Security: BSF Showcases Rampur and Mudhol Hounds in Demonstration of Indigenous Canine Capability

The Border Security Force today presented a polished demonstration highlighting India’s indigenous canine capability by showcasing trained Rampur Hound and Mudhol Hound teams. The initiative traces its roots to the Prime Minister’s “Mann Ki Baat” of August 30, 2020, after which the National Canine Training Centre and BSF invested in scientific breeding and training programs to develop multi-role security dogs. Selected for search and rescue, tactical ingress, obstacle negotiation and operational tracking, the Rampur and Mudhol hounds have moved from prolonged training schedules to executing complex tasks in short order. The display included coordinated combination jumps, high wall climbs up to 20 feet and blindfolded rope crossings to simulate low-visibility rescue and assault scenarios. Trainers stressed that local breeding, research investment and tailored conditioning have produced canines capable of performing in extreme operational conditions. Senior BSF officers praised the breeds for their speed, agility and composure under stress, noting that these indigenous animals reinforce an Atmanirbhar Bharat approach to security capability. The demonstration underlined operational importance for both life-saving missions and tactical deployments, and concluded with accolades for training staff and a commitment to expand such programs across other paramilitary forces.
