Bihar News: Opposition's Bihar Bandh And Nationwide Labour Strike Disrupt Rail, Trigger Voter List Showdown

The voter list verification drive by the Election Commission has sparked intense political unrest in Bihar, with opposition parties under the INDIA alliance launching a state-wide Bihar Bandh and chakka jam today. Major cities including Patna, Jehanabad, Danapur, and Araria witnessed disruptions as protesters blocked roads and railways, demanding the rollback of the revised voter list norms. In Patna, Congress leaders along with RJD and other opposition parties were seen sitting on railway tracks holding party flags and placards, refusing to move despite repeated police requests. A massive foot march is scheduled today from Income Tax Golambar to the Election Commission’s office, led by opposition leaders Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav.Opposition leaders have slammed the requirement of eight documents for voter verification, calling it anti-poor and impractical—especially for migrant workers. They accuse the government of attempting to suppress native voters in Bihar ahead of upcoming elections.Adding to the chaos, over 25 crore workers across India have joined a nationwide strike organized by trade unions opposing the new labour codes and privatization policies. Their demands include restoring the old pension scheme and fixing minimum wages at ₹26,000.Both protests reflect rising public frustration with economic and democratic policies.
