Amarnath Yatra: First batch of pilgrims departs from Jammu under tight security

The Amarnath Yatra began with the first batch of pilgrims leaving Bhagwati Nagar Camp in Jammu under tight security. However, confusion and overcrowding marked the registration process at the Pahalgam base camp, where hundreds of devotees gathered to obtain registration for the pilgrimage. Many pilgrims complained that they had been standing in queues since late at night, with some waiting for over seven hours, only to be informed that registration had not yet begun and that they needed to return to the base camp to collect tokens. Several devotees alleged poor planning, inadequate communication, and a lack of basic facilities such as drinking water and proper guidance. Some claimed they had been moving between different registration counters for days without receiving clear instructions. Authorities attempted to manage the growing crowd by redirecting pilgrims and controlling the queues, but frustration remained high among those waiting. Despite the registration issues, devotees remained determined to complete the pilgrimage and have the opportunity to seek the blessings of Baba Barfani during the annual Amarnath Yatra.
