Could a Single Injection Replace Chemotherapy and Radiation in Cancer Treatment?

A revolutionary breakthrough in cancer treatment could soon change the future of healthcare in India. Med Therapy is working on advanced gene therapy that may treat certain cancers with just a single injection, reducing the need for chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The treatment, already being used in the United States since 2017, studies a patient’s genes to create a personalized injection designed specifically to target cancer cells. Although gene therapy is currently expensive worldwide, the company aims to establish a manufacturing hub in India to make the treatment more affordable and accessible for Indian patients. According to doctors, the process of developing a customized injection takes nearly two months, which contributes to the high cost. Initial trials are focused on blood cancer treatment, while future research may expand its use to other cancer types. Regulatory approvals for manufacturing have already been received, and ongoing clinical trials are expected to pave the way for nationwide availability within the next year. This innovation could mark a major step forward in personalized cancer care in India.
