Viral Video Of Australian Kids Using A Dead Snake As A Skipping Rope Sparks Online Debate

A viral video from Woorabinda, Australia, shows children using a dead snake as a skipping rope, sparking debate online. The RSPCA urges reporting of harm to native animals.

A shocking video from Woorabinda, Australia, has taken the internet by storm. The clip, which has now gone viral, shows a group of children using a dead snake as a skipping rope. They can be seen laughing and jumping over the snake while an adult watches nearby. The incident reportedly took place in an area about two hours from Rockhampton in Central Queensland. In the video, a woman’s voice can be heard asking the children, “Show me that. Show me what it is.” One of the boys responds, saying the snake is a black-headed python. However, it is unclear if the snake was already dead before the children started playing with it.

The video was shared by a user named Clown Down Under on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Australian Aboriginal children use dead python as a skipping rope in Woorabinda, Queensland.” The video has garnered more than 11,000 views, sparking mixed reactions online.

According to NDTV, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) responded to the incident, saying, “The killing or injuring of native animals should be reported to the Department of the Environment, Science, Tourism and Innovation or the RSPCA.” The video has raised concerns about wildlife treatment and safety, with many internet users debating whether the act was harmless fun or a serious issue.

How Social Media Users Reacted To This Video

One of the users said, “That's the most Australian thing I've seen in a while.” Whereas another one said, “So what. That's something I'd totally do with my Polish mates if we found dead pythons growing up. You must have had very sad childhood mate.” A third one claimed that she did that too and said, “Good on them.   Having a bit of bush kids fun.   I too have skipped with a snake when I was a kid living in the outback. Snake was all ready dead no one got hurt.”

As some of the users were taking sides in this incident, the other group was not so happy as one of the users wrote, “You know what is weird about this? What they’re doing is totally legal because they’re Aboriginal….. they’ll claim it’s a cultural thing.”
