'Hold My Chai': After Bhopal's 90-Degree Overpass, 'Temple Run' Bridge Comes Up In Andhra. Pic Goes Viral

Kerala Congress mocks Andhra's zigzag bridge after Bhopal’s 90-degree flyover goes viral. Social media erupts with reactions as both structures face criticism over bizarre designs and safety concerns.

The internet has found its latest obsession — and it’s not what you’d expect. After a bizarrely angled railway overbridge in Bhopal made headlines, a new contender for India’s strangest road design has entered the chat. This time, it’s a sharply twisting bridge in Andhra Pradesh, and it’s got everyone talking.

On Monday, the official X handle of Congress Kerala posted a Google Maps screenshot showing a mind-bending stretch of road in Andhra’s Vasudevapuram area, nestled along State Highway 57. The image quickly lit up social media — and not just because of the design. What caught everyone’s attention was the post’s cheeky caption taking a dig at the ruling TDP-BJP alliance:

“Bhopal made a 90° flyover. Andhra: ‘Hold my chai.’”

With three jarring turns packed into a short span, the bridge instantly reminded users of video games and lockdown-era improvisation. One quipped, “Temple Run — Andhra version,” while another joked, “I think these were designed by Covid-time engineers.” A third said, “Okay for lesson time,
1) you can't directly connect the both sides as it's a railway passing. There's a elevation difference on both the sides so you need to gain height so the first 90 degree turn, then road over  railway passing.”

Whereas another user joked and said, “Proof that even roads can pull off a dramatic plot twist, hope the drivers brought their stunt licenses!”

The post didn’t just spark laughter — it ignited curiosity. “Why can’t it be connected to the other side in a curved manner? Any technical reason?” one user asked, reflecting the widespread disbelief at the peculiar layout.

As the post soared past seven lakh views, it fueled the ongoing digital roast of India’s recent infrastructural oddities — with Bhopal’s controversial overbridge still fresh in public memory.

Just days earlier, social media erupted over a newly constructed railway overbridge near Aishbagh Stadium in Bhopal. What should have been a symbol of progress turned into a subject of ridicule due to a dangerously sharp, 90-degree turn immediately following its incline. Intended to benefit nearly three lakh daily commuters, the Rs 18-crore project instead raised alarm bells over potential accidents.

Congress was quick to slam the design, calling it a serious safety hazard. In response, Madhya Pradesh PWD Minister Rakesh Singh dismissed the criticism as politically motivated but promised a design review.

Bhopal's New Infrastructure Wonder

Constructed at a cost of ₹18 crore, the 648-metre-long and 8.5-metre-wide railway overbridge in Bhopal is now nearing completion. Designed to ease traffic congestion and cut down the long delays at the railway crossing, the bridge connects key areas including Mahamai Ka Bagh, Pushpa Nagar, the station vicinity, and New Bhopal. According to government estimates, the project, which began in March 2023, is expected to benefit nearly three lakh commuters every day.

Despite its intended purpose, the bridge has come under fire for its unusual 90-degree turn, which has drawn widespread criticism and safety concerns. Addressing the issue, Madhya Pradesh PWD Minister Rakesh Singh stated, “Whenever a bridge is constructed, numerous technical aspects are considered. If any allegations have been raised, we will certainly review them.”

Bhopal’s 90-Degree Curve Sparks Real Change

The now-infamous 90-degree turn on the Aishbagh railway overbridge in Bhopal hasn’t just been a subject of memes — it's prompting real action.

According to PWD sources, Indian Railways has agreed to provide additional land to help redesign the curve. Once the land is handed over, the bridge’s current railing will be removed, and the sharp corner will be reshaped into a more rounded curve. This change is expected to increase the bridge’s width by up to three feet, giving vehicles more space to maneuver safely.
