Telangana: CPI(M) Extends Support To TRS In Munugode Byelection

Veerabhadram clarified that their decision to support Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) was limited to the Munugode bypoll

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) has decided to extend support to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the upcoming byelection to the Munugode Assembly seat. The State secretary of CPI(M) Tammineni Veerabhadram announced this on Thursday.

Veerabhadram said their party debated the idea of running in the elections in coalition with the Communist Party of India (CPI) but ultimately decided to lend support to the TRS to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Veerabhadram clarified that their decision to support Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) was limited to the Munugode bypoll.

The CPI-M leader claimed that the BJP needed to be reined in since it was misusing institutions for its political ends. He said that the BJP was threatening its political opponents with searches by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and other national agencies to topple non-BJP state governments.

Earlier, CPI announced its support for the TRS, and the CPI(M) made its choice. At a public event held by the TRS in the constituency on August 20, the CPI leaders and CM KCR shared a dais.

CPI National Secretary K. Narayana had said that he would work to strengthen the anti-BJP forces across the country and criticized that the BJP is destroying the federal system of India.

Narayana has called for defeating BJP in Munugode to send a strong message to the country, criticising the BJP for toppling state governments of other parties.

Following the resignation of Congress MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy, the Assembly seat became vacant. He resigned from the Congress party and joined the BJP at a public meeting addressed by union home minister Amit Shah in the constituency on August 21.
