250 Onion Pizzas In 1 Order, Rs 5.13 Lakh On A Single Meal: Swiggy, Zomato Unveil Fascinating Customer Food Habits Of 2024

Biryani reigned supreme on favourite items on both Zomato and Swiggy, with tea and dosa not trailing too far behind.

Swiggy and Zomato have unveiled amusing trends in India’s food habits in their year-end reports, reflecting the nation's culinary diversity and indulgences. The food delivery aggregators share consumer behaviour and trends as an annual tradition, and almost every year, some or the other trend begs the question: how can this be possibly true?

Well, 2024 is no different. From hundreds of pizzas in a single order to spending lakhs on a single meal, here are 2024's top trends:

250 Onion Pizzas

Swiggy's report revealed an astonishing order from a Delhi user: 250 onion pizzas in one go.

Highlighting the moment, the platform quipped, "The real night owl award goes to a Delhi user who ordered a jaw-dropping 250 Onion Pizzas in a single order — sounds like a wild pizza party!" This unique order stood out as a testament to India's love for late-night feasts.

Rs 5.13-Lakh Dinner

On Zomato, dining out saw over 1.25 crore table reservations, with Father’s Day being the busiest day for restaurants.

Bengaluru also made headlines for hosting a diner who spent a record Rs 5.13 lakh on a single meal. What did this person order? Anybody's guess, I suppose!

Midnight Cravings: Pizza Vs Biryani

Swiggy also noted that the real dilemma uniting the nation wasn’t cricket or viral trends — it was the nightly debate of choosing between pizza and biryani to satisfy hunger pangs. Unsurprisingly, biryani reigned supreme with two orders placed every second.

On the other hand, Zomato’s report confirmed biryani's enduring popularity, with over 9 crore plates delivered in 2024 — equating to more than three biryanis per second. Pizza claimed the second spot, with over 5.8 crore deliveries.

Dosa & Tea Reign Supreme

Dosa maintained its popularity on Swiggy, with 23 million orders logged across the country. Bengaluru led the charge with 2.5 million Masala Dosas consumed, while other cities leaned towards regional favourites like chole, aloo paranthas, and kachoris.

On Zomato, on the beverage front, tea emerged victorious, outpacing coffee yet again, with nearly 78 lakh cups ordered.

Meanwhile, Delhi topped Zomato's savings chart, with residents availing Rs 195 crore in discounts.

From biryani’s unmatched dominance to record-breaking orders and extravagant dining bills, these reports underscore India's deep-rooted love for food. Whether savouring budget-friendly meals or splurging on luxury dining, the Indian palate continues to celebrate its rich diversity.
