Elon Musk’s company has not issued a statement on the cause of the platform’s problems. The multi-billionaire acquired Twitter in 2022 after reportedly paying $44 billion for the takeover. He subsequently rebranded the microblogging site as X and introduced several features, including Grok, an integrated artificial intelligence service.

After the acquisition, X rarely went off the grid, unlike its peers Facebook and Instagram.

Recently, the tech billionaire raised prices for the top-tier subscription service (Premium+) on his X social media platform by 35 per cent for both new and existing users in India, with similar increases seen across global markets. Premium users in India now pay Rs 1,750 a month, up from Rs 1,300, while the annual cost has risen to Rs 18,300 from Rs 13,600. Meanwhile, the basic tier subscription rate in India remains unchanged at Rs 243, and the premium tier is at Rs 650. In the United States, the premium service now costs $22 a month, up from $16, with the annual subscription fee increasing to $229 from $168.
