Caller identification service provider Truecaller on Thursday introduced Live Caller ID feature for iPhone users. However, there's a catch and unlike Android smartphone users, iOS users will have to use Siri to use this feature.
"Introducing, for the very first time - Live Caller ID on iPhone! 📲 All you have to do is to say "Hey Siri, Search Truecaller". #HeySiriSearchTruecaller," the company announced on Twitter.
The Stockholm-headquartered caller identification service provider has made the Live Caller ID available as a premium feature on the Truecaller app for iPhone users. iPhone users will have to pay a premium to use this feature. TrueCaller premium subscription is available in Premium and Gold Premium. While an individual's premium subscription is available for Rs 529 per annum or Rs 179 for three months. Truecaller Gold subscription is available for Rs 5,000 per year.
How does Truecaller Live Caller ID for iPhones work
When you get a call it rings on your phone as usual, but if you decline or don't answer the call, it'll be forwarded to digital assistant, Siri. They'll answer and screen it for you using voice-to-text technology. When the caller responds to your assistant, you'll be able to see who's calling and why on the screen.
The caller will hear the assistant asking "hi, the person you're calling is using a screening service, may I ask who it is?" and the reason for the call. From here you can open up the chat window if you need more information. Then you can decide whether to accept or reject the call.
"Forget accidentally ignoring important calls for deliveries and leaving them to the mercy of porch pirates. Forget missing important reminders from your doctor or your children’s school. And for those waiting for an important call back for a new job, you can be sure that you’ll know exactly which call that is, and won’t miss it amongst a sea of other calls," the company said in a statement.
Truecaller has had limited experience for iOS users due to how Apple works with external third-party caller ID apps, according to a report by TechCrunch report that quoted Nakul Kabra, Truecaller's Product Director for iOS.
