The dispute emerged after Musk filed a lawsuit against the organisation, accusing it of abandoning its initial objective of developing artificial intelligence (AI) for the betterment of humanity, instead focusing solely on profit-making endeavours. OpenAI promptly announced its intent to challenge all of Musk's assertions legally.
In response to Musk's lawsuit, OpenAI expressed disappointment at the turn of events, particularly considering Musk's earlier influence and inspiration. The organisation lamented the legal conflict, expressing regret over the breakdown of a once-admired relationship.

According to OpenAI's statement, Musk's lawsuit alleges a breach of contract, citing his belief that the Microsoft-backed entity has shifted its priorities towards financial gains. The lawsuit also highlighted Musk's proposition for OpenAI to merge with his electric vehicle company, Tesla, with a suggested strategy for Tesla to act as the financial backbone for OpenAI.
