Google Photos Locked Folder Getting The Ability To Back Up Soon?

In a bid to make it easier to backup images in Google Photos, the company is introducing the ability to backup photos even in Locked Folder.

In a bid to make it easier to backup images in Google Photos, the company is introducing the ability to backup photos even in Locked Folder, the media has reported. The new feature has been discovered in a hidden settings page in the application's latest version, says a report by Android Central.

With the new capability, users will get a way to back up images and videos saved in Locked Folder. Introduced in 2021, the space is meant to keep sensitive photos out of the users' main camera roll. Currently, the images and videos locked behind the folder are not able to recover once the users' phone is reset or the Photos application is uninstalled, the report said.

To recall, in September 2022, a report mentioned that several Google Photos users had complained that their old photographs had been "corrupted". People began noticing that their years-old photos (over five years, approximately) had lines and deep cracks running through them.

The company, last year, had also added new filters in Google Photos to help users show their skin in its true shade.

To recall, Google last week announced it is rolling out immersive view, an AI-based feature in the Google Maps app. According to the tech giant, using AI and computer vision, immersive view fuses billions of Street View and aerial images to create a rich, digital model of the world. The company is rolling it out in five cities.

The feature now is being rolled out in London, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Tokyo, and in the coming months, the company said, the feature will become available in even more cities, including in Amsterdam, Dublin, Florence and Venice.

Immersive view also layers helpful information like the weather, traffic and how busy a place is. The app also received a time slider to let users see what the area looks like at different times.

“Last year, we shared our vision for the future of Google Maps — an immersive, intuitive map that reimagines how you explore and navigate, while helping you make more sustainable choices. Today we’re demonstrating how AI is bringing this vision to life, with updates for immersive view and Live View, along with new features for electric vehicle (EV) drivers and people who walk, bike or ride public transit," Google wrote in a blog post.
