Google Announces Deeper Integration Between Its AI Chatbot Bard And Gmail, Docs, YouTube, More

Google on Tuesday announced deeper integration between its AI chatbot Bard and services such as YouTube, Google Docs, and Gmail, among others.

Google on Tuesday announced deeper integration between its AI chatbot Bard and services such as YouTube, Google Docs, and Gmail, among others. With this, users can use Bard alongside Google apps and services, double-check its responses and access features in more places. This is Bard’s "most capable model " yet, as per the tech giant. Bard integrates with Google apps and services for more helpful responses.

Privacy concerns surrounding AI is a pertinent question and Google says it is "committed to protecting users' personal information".

For those who choose to use the Workspace extensions, their content from Gmail, Docs and Drive is not seen by human reviewers, used by Bard to show them ads or used to train the Bard model. They are always in control of their privacy settings when deciding how they want to use these extensions, and they can also turn them off at any time.

"Today we’re launching Bard Extensions in English, a completely new way to interact and collaborate with Bard. With Extensions, Bard can find and show you relevant information from the Google tools you use every day — like Gmail, Docs, Drive, Google Maps, YouTube, and Google Flights and hotels — even when the information you need is across multiple apps and services," Yury Pinsky, Director, Product Management, Bard, Google, wrote in a blog post.

"For example, if you’re planning a trip to the Grand Canyon (a project that takes up many tabs), you can now ask Bard to grab the dates that work for everyone from Gmail, look up real-time flight and hotel information, see Google Maps directions to the airport, and even watch YouTube videos of things to do there — all within one conversation."

Starting today (September 19) with responses in English, one can use Bard’s “Google it” button to more easily double-check its answers. When they click on the “G” icon, the AI chatbot will read the response and evaluate whether there is content across the web to substantiate it. When a statement can be evaluated, you can click the highlighted phrases and learn more about supporting or contradicting information found by Search.
