Google Confirms Pixel 8a Is In Works. Here's The Expected Features, Specs, Colours, More
The Pixel 8a is anticipated to run on Google's proprietary Tensor G3 processor.
Google has confirmed the development of the upcoming Pixel 8a in a new way. In response to a query regarding Pixel's battery information on its official forum, the tech giant has revealed its plan to introduce a comprehensive battery information page with the debut of the Pixel 8a smartphone. Additionally, the company stated that the battery information page will be accessible on the Google Pixel 8a smartphone and subsequent models.
While the Mountain View, California-headquartered company has not officially unveiled the device, the moniker recently appeared on one of the company's support pages, suggesting an imminent launch. Speculations indicate it might debut at Google's upcoming I/O event, which is annual one, following the pattern of its predecessor, the Pixel 7a, which was introduced during the May 2023 Google I/O conference.
The name "Google Pixel 8a" was sighted on the company's IssueTracker site. When asked about a missing 'battery information list,' a Google employee clarified that the feature is exclusively enabled on Pixel 8a models and higher. This suggests that a launch of the Google Pixel 8a is imminent.
The much-awaited Pixel 8a is likely to borrow a significant amount of design elements from the flagship Pixel 8 series, launched last year. It is anticipated to run on Google's proprietary Tensor G3 processor. The display is likely to maintain a 90Hz refresh rate, similar to the Pixel 7a. Considering Google's tendency to use the same image sensors across generations, significant changes in the camera department are unlikely.
Recent leaks and rumours also suggest that the Google Pixel 8a will come in two variants: one with 8GB of RAM with 128GB storage and 8GB RAM with 256GB of internal storage. The anticipated prices of the Pixel 8a are around EUR 570 (approximately Rs 51,000) and EUR 630 (approximately Rs 56,000), respectively.
Additionally, the Pixel 8a is expected to become available in bay (light blue), mint (light green), obsidian (black) and porcelain (beige) colour options.
To recall, the Google Pixel 7a (read our full review here) was launched with a Tensor G2 SoC, accompanied by 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 onboard storage. Running on Android 13, it featured a 6.1-inch 90Hz full-HD+ OLED display shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Its dual rear camera setup comprises a 64-megapixel primary sensor and a 13-megapixel sensor with an ultrawide lens, while the front camera features a 13-megapixel sensor. Powering the device is a 4,385mAh battery.
