Galaxy AI To Become Paid After 2025, Samsung Confirms. Details

The flagship Galaxy S24 lineup of devices boast AI-driven applications, such as real-time voice call and message translation in select languages, improved image editing.

Samsung has said that the Galaxy AI features, unveiled alongside the flagship Galaxy S24 series, will be complimentary only until 2025, the media reported on Wednesday. TM Roh, President of Samsung's mobile division, was quoted as saying by an ET Telecom report that the company intends to offer these AI features without charge on its devices until the end of 2025. He also mentioned that Samsung has not finalised the availability plan for these features beyond next year.

The flagship Galaxy S24 lineup of devices boast AI-driven applications, such as real-time voice call and message translation in select languages, improved image editing, camera effects tailored for content creators, and Corning Gorilla Armor glass for enhanced display durability. Sales of the Galaxy S24 lineup starts on January 31 (today).

“According to our analysis, there are various needs for mobile AI. So, there will be consumers who will be satisfied with using the AI capabilities for free. Then there could also be customers who wish for even more powerful AI capabilities, and even pay for them,” Roh was quoted as saying in the report.

He added: “The company will take all these factors into consideration before making any decisions in the future regarding their AI features."

The top company executive's statement marks Samsung's first acknowledgment of paid Galaxy AI features, however some unanswered questions still remain.

According to the company's note on the US site, on Galaxy AI, in the footnotes on the Galaxy S24 Ultra page, "Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties.”

Meanwhile, the South Korean tech major intends to extend its Galaxy AI to 100 million mobile devices this year, which is in response to customer enthusiasm for exploring new technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), Roh said last week.
