China's Display Giant BOE Intending To Supply Panels For iPhone 15 Pro Models

China's biggest display maker BOE is intending to make OLED panels for the higher-end models of the iPhone 15 lineup.

New Delhi: China's biggest display maker BOE is intending to make OLED panels for the higher-end models of the iPhone 15 lineup, the media has reported. The China-based display-making giant currently, makes panels for the baseline iPhone 13. The higher-end displays that require more advanced technology, are being produced by Samsung.

The Beijing, China-headquartered BOE is intending to expand its ability to manufacture OLED LTPO displays, which enable a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz, in time for the ‌iPhone‌ 15 Pro, expected to be unveiled in 2023, according to a report published in The Elec. For this year's iPhone 14 lineup that is likely to launch this fall, BOE would supply displays for only the baseline models whereas the Pro series models would continue to rely on Samsung and LG.

For the 6.68-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple will be procuring OLED panels from Samsung Display and LG Display. Cupertino is planning to apply hole-display technology on the Pro lineup of the iPhone 14 series. BOE is aggressively expanding its share in Apple’s OLED panel supply chain against South Korean rivals Samsung Display and LG Display, the report added.

Since the ‌launch of iPhone‌ X, Apple, for the first time, is likely to introduce a design overhaul to the display on the higher-end ‌iPhone 14‌ models that are likely to launch this fall and include removing the notch. The notch could be replaced by a hole punch and a pill-shaped cutout at the top of the display.

Meanwhile, there have been a couple of leaks and rumours about the purported iPhone SE 2022 edition and now, the next iteration in the "affordable" iPhone SE lineup, the iPhone SE 3 is likely to launch in April. According to a previous report by news agency Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the upcoming iPhone SE 3 will be unveiled at the iPhone maker's next virtual launch event that is likely to happen in March or April this year.
