WWDC 2024: Apple May Skip All Hardware Announcements This Year
Earlier, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman had said that a new Apple TV with an upgraded processor and a more affordable price tag was expected to debut at WWDC.
Apple is likely to skip hardware announcements at the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024 annual conference. Starting on June 10, this developer conference typically serves as a platform for Apple to announce its latest products. However, this year, the annual event from Apple is expected to concentrate solely on software developments, such as iOS 18 with likely artificial intelligence (AI) enhancements, similar to Samsung and Google, skipping new hardware announcements. Reports suggest that iOS 18 will be the most substantial upgrade in the Cupertino tech giant's history, with plans to enhance many key apps using generative AI.

No Hardware Announcement At WWDC
While traditionally held in San Jose, California, with tickets priced at $1,599, WWDC shifted primarily to an online format since 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, sporadic in-person gatherings at Apple Park began in 2022. Anticipation is high for iOS 18, with rumours circulating about groundbreaking AI-driven features and a redesigned Home Screen organisation method. Although hardware announcements are uncommon at WWDC, speculations suggest the potential unveiling of new devices, reminiscent of last year's surprise introduction of the Vision Pro mixed-reality headset.
Moreover, in his Power On newsletter, new agency Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said that Apple is not planning to reveal any new hardware at its upcoming developer conference. The Cupertino-based tech giant is expected to focus exclusively on software updates at WWDC 2024. However, he now states that the launch "isn't imminent."
“There's no hardware slated to be announced at WWDC, unless Apple unexpectedly previews a new device launching later (to be clear: I don't expect that)”, Gurman noted.
