2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Celebrated By Google With A Sporty Doodle Today. Check It Out

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: The Indian team will play their opening match on Friday, October 4, against New Zealand

Google Doodle Today: The much-anticipated 9th edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup officially began today, October 3, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). To celebrate the start of this global cricketing event, Google has dedicated a vibrant Doodle, shining a spotlight on the talented women cricketers competing in the tournament.

The colourful Doodle showcases women athletes in action — one batter is poised to strike, while another cricketer leaps in the air for a catch, and a third celebrates enthusiastically. The design is set against a cricket pitch, with the cricket ball replacing the 'O' in 'Google,' adding a playful nod to the sport. This creative artwork captures the essence of the tournament as the world's top women cricketers gather to compete for glory.

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: A Brief History

The ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, first held in 2009, has grown to become one of the premier global sporting events, offering women a stage to showcase their cricketing talent. This year, ten teams will participate, including defending champions Australia, who are vying for their seventh title.

Newcomers Scotland are making their debut appearance, hoping to make a mark in their first-ever World Cup.

Same Prize Money For The First Time

A significant feature of this edition is the historic equalisation of prize money. For the first time in ICC history, the women’s teams will be awarded the same prize money as the men’s teams, with the tournament winner taking home a prize of $2.34 million. This move reflects the growing focus on gender equality in sports and adds extra significance to the event.

The teams are divided into two groups of five, competing in a round-robin format during the group stage. India is placed in Group A alongside Australia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, and Pakistan.

ICC Women’s T20 World Cup: Team India Matches

The Indian team will play their opening match on Friday, October 4, against New Zealand, followed by matches against Pakistan on October 6, Sri Lanka on October 9, and Australia on October 13. The group matches will be held across Dubai and Sharjah.

As the tournament unfolds, cricket fans worldwide will witness thrilling clashes, with both seasoned champions and rising stars battling it out for the prestigious title.
