Tamil Nadu: Caught Stealing, Two Men Lynched By Residents In Two Different Incidents

The owner and neighbours tied Srinivasan to a tree and started attacking him until he fell unconscious.

Chennai: In the first incident, a 25-year-old man who tried to steal Rs 40,000 cash and other valuables was caught and lynched in Nagapattinam on Tuesday.

According to a report in the Times of India, four persons were arrested in connection with the murder. The victim was identified as S Srinivasan, a resident of Vedaranyam, who was caught while he was escaping from a home of a fisherman.

The house owner, Kalidass was a resident of Tata Nagar in the Tsunami residential area and he left the home to venture into the sea on the wee hours of Tuesday.

His wife Malarkodi was alone in their home. Hence, a few hours later Srinivasan entered the home since Malarkodi left the house open and stole Rs 40,000 and 2 sovereigns of gold. However, he mistakenly made a sound while he tried to escape following which Malarkodi woke up and cried for help.

However, the accused threatened her at knife-point and tried to flee the place. Yet, the neighbours caught the thief.

They then tied Srinivasan to a tree and started attacking him along with Kalidass. In the impact, Srinivasan fell unconscious and he was taken to the hospital but he was declared dead.

The police booked a case and arrested all the four accused in the case.

Meanwhile, in another incident, ten persons were arrested for beating a guest worker to death after he tried to allegedly steal electric wire and from a home in Boluvampatti in Coimbatore.

The guest worker who was under the influence of alcohol went to the home of Kalliyappan on Tuesday on the pretext of asking for drinking water and tried to steal the electric wires and other tools. When the owner and kin saw this, they started to call the neighbours and all of them beat him until he fell unconscious. A day later, the police identified his body on the Noyyal river and arrested 10 persons in connection with the incident.
