IMD Predicts Heavy Rain For Tamil Nadu As NE Monsoon Spurs Low-Pressure Area In BoB
The weather department predicted that a low pressure area might form around November 15.
As Northeast monsoon has been active over Tamil Nadu, India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced the potential formation of a Low-Pressure Area in the Southeast and adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal around November 15. On Friday, IMD forecast heavy rainfall at isolated locations including districts such as Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai and Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu as well as Karaikal.
The weather department predicted that a low-pressure area might form around November 15. IMD said, “A Low Pressure Area is likely to form over Southeast & adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal around 15th November, 2023.”
“Yesterday’s cyclonic circulation over Comorin area extending upto 0.9 km above mean sea level has become less marked. Yesterday’s Low Pressure Area over Eastcentral Arabian Sea has become less marked. However, the associated cyclonic circulation now lies over Eastcentral & adjoining Southeast Arabian Sea extending upto 3.1 km above mean sea level,” it said.
As a result, IMD said that heavy rain at isolated places is likely to occur over Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Thoothukudi, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari districts of Tamilnadu and Karaikal area on November 10 (Friday).
In Chennai, IMD said, “Sky condition is likely to be partly cloudy. Light /Moderate rain with thunderstorm and lightning is likely to occur in some areas. Maximum temperature is likely to be 32 - 33°C and minimum temperature is likely to be 25-26°C.”
On Thursday, the highest amount of 9 cm of rainfall was received in parts of Tiruppur and Kanyakumari districts while the least amount of 1 cm rainfall was received in certain places in Cuddalore, Ranipet and other districts.
