AIADMK To Elect General Secretary On March 26 Amid Leadership Tussle Between EPS, OPS

However, AIADMK circles expect that Palaniswami would be elected as the general secretary of the party unopposed.

For the first time after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of Tamil Nadu Opposition leader Edappadi K Palaniswami, AIADMK announced that the elections for the general secretary post will be held on March 26.

In a release from the party's election officer, R Vishwanathan and Pollachi Jeyaraman said, "(The) General Secretary would be elected by Party primary member and from March 18 nomination begins. The last day for the nomination is March 19 and the scrutiny of the nomination is on March 20. On March 21 nominations can be withdrawn and on March 26 election would be held and on March 27 counting would happen."

"It is also noted that according to the AIADMK Party bylaw 20(A) section 2 Party General Secretary would be elected by the primary member of the party. And also interested cadres can get the application from the party headquarters in Royapettah on payment of Rs 25,000," it read.

However, AIADMK circles expect that Palaniswami would be elected as the general secretary of the party unopposed.

The Supreme Court in February upheld the Madras HC order making EPS the AIADMK's single leader and rejecting Panneerselvam's plea.

The SC gave the judgment while hearing a batch of petitions regarding the AIADMK power tussle between OPS and EPS.

After the death of AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa, a clash broke out between Edappadi Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam regarding the leadership of the party. Initially, OPS and EPS were the AIADMK coordinator and co-coordinator of the party respectively.

Later, EPS group passed a resolution making EPS as interim general secretary and ousted OPS from the party.

On the other hand, Jayalalithaa's aide Sasikala is also trying to gain control over the party. However, EPS camp ousted Sasikala and AMMK chief TTV Dhinakaran from the party.
