Teacher Uses 'Drill Machine' On Class 5 Student's Hand In UP's Kanpur, Official Assures 'Strict Action'
The student suffered injuries on the left hand and was sent home from school after the incident and received minor treatment.
New Delhi: A teacher in a private school in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh allegedly drilled the hand of a class 5 student for forgetting the 'multiplication table of 2', according to an ANI report. The teacher did so as punishment for not reciting the table.
The student is a resident of Sisamau studying at the upper primary school at Premnagar in the Kanpur district, according to the report.
In her complaint to the police, the girl said, "The teacher (name withheld) asked me to recite the 'Table of 2'. As I failed to do so, he drilled my hand. A fellow student standing beside me unplugged the drill immediately."
Upon learning about the incident, the enraged relatives of the victim reached the school resulting in a commotion, ANI reported citing the police statement.
According to the report, the teacher-in-charge hadn't informed the local education officials about the incident. Only after the family arrived, the block education officials were informed.

After receiving the information, the basic Shiksha Adhikari and the block education officer reached the spot to investigate the matter.
Speaking about the incident, Basic Shiksha Adhikari of Kanpur Nagar, Sujit Kumar Singh told ANI, "A committee has been formed to investigate this entire incident. Block education officers of Prem Nagar and Shastri Nagar will investigate the matter and send a report. Anyone found guilty would face punitive action."

The student is said to have sustained a minor injury and was given primary treatment, ANI reported.
