'Can't Be Condoned': Punjab BJP Leaders Seek Expulsion Of Party Colleague Over Gurdwara Remarks

Leaders of Punjab BJP have sought expulsion of their party colleague Sandeep Dayma over his remarks against gurdwaras during a rally in Rajasthan.

Leader of Punjab's Bharatiya Janata Patry unit on Sunday sought expulsion of their party colleague Sandeep Dayma over his remarks against gurdwaras during a recent rally in Rajasthan's Tijara. A police complaint was also lodged against Dayma by women's wing chief of the Punjab BJP, Jai Inder Kaur, reported PTI. She said an FIR should be registered against the Rajasthan leader.

Dayma's statement was denounced by senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh who sought againt the leader saying people like Dayma, who speak mindlessly and make vicious statements, should have no place in a party like the BJP, while party's Punjab unit chief, Sunil Jakhar, said the Rajasthan leader's outburst cannot be condoned.

The leader stirred a controversy in Rajasthan ahead of the upcoming state Assembly polls when Dayma made his remarks targeting gurdwaras at the Tijara rally on November 1.

He reportedly said that the gurdwaras that have come up in the desert state will become "open sores" and those should be uprooted.

Since then, Dayma has tendered an unconditional apology for his remarks but Jakhar said he has apprised the party leadership of the reprehensible statement of Dayma.

"Outburst of Rajasthan leader against religious sentiments of fellow citizens cannot be condoned. I have apprised central leadership of hurt caused to people by his reprehensible statement," Jakhar sain in a post on X.

"State BJP unit has recommended exploring of all options to ensure no repetition of such misconduct takes place as no apology would assuage hurt and anger caused by this insensitive remark," he added.

The apology tendered by Dayma has served no purpose, said Singh, adding that it has already caused immense hurt to well-meaning people.

Not only should he be expelled from the party, legal action must also be taken against him, he added.
