Pune Porsche Case: Father Of Minor Accused Granted Bail Under Juvenile Justice Act

A Pune court granted bail today to Vishal Agarwal, the father of the teenager accused of running over two engineers while driving a Porsche on May 19.

A Pune court granted bail on Friday to Vishal Agarwal, the father of the teenager accused of running over two engineers while driving a Porsche in Kalyani Nagar on May 19. Agarwal received bail in a case related to the Juvenile Justice Act, as reported by PTI.

Agarwal, the owner of the realty firm Brahma Group, was charged under the Motor Vehicles Act and the Juvenile Justice Act for failing to fulfil his duty as a guardian. The police took it after discovering that the Porsche, purchased for his son in March, had not been registered because Agarwal had not paid the Rs 44 lakh road tax. Additionally, his minor son did not have a driving license.

The accident resulted in the deaths of Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa, two software engineers from Madhya Pradesh. The 17-year-old, allegedly driving under the influence, struck them in the early hours of May 19.

On June 14, the Pune court sent the teenager's parents and another accused to 14-day judicial custody. Vishal Agarwal, Shivani Agarwal, and the middleman, Ashpak Makandar, are being investigated for allegedly switching the teenager's blood samples to show he was not intoxicated at the time of the accident. Makandar is accused of acting as a middleman between the Agarwals and doctors at Sassoon General Hospital, where blood samples were collected.

It is alleged that Shivani Agarwal's blood samples were used as replacements.

Initially, the Juvenile Justice Board granted bail to the teenager, placing him under the care of his parents and grandparents, with a condition to write a 300-word essay on road safety. However, the police sought an amendment to the bail order, and on May 22, the board ordered the boy to be taken into custody and remanded to an observation home.

The teenager remains in the observation home until June 25. The court has reserved its decision on a plea by the aunt, with an announcement likely on June 25.
