Pondicherry University To Implement NEP From This Academic Year, Says VC Gurmeet Singh

National Education Policy does not impose any language on anyone, Vice-Chancellor Gurmeet Singh said, responding to the claims of language imposition through NEP.

Pondicherry University will implement National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 in all colleges in the union territory from this academic year, said Vice-Chancellor Gurmeet Singh on Tuesday. The VC said that NEP has several positive aspects including education for empowerment and skill development.

According to PTI, Gurmeet Singh addressing the media said, "The NEP envisages holistic development to foster cognitive and physical skills of students. The policy promotes a multi-disciplinary approach that encourages students to explore various subjects and develop robust skills. Also, its emphasis on the integration of vocational education in the general stream."

National Education Policy does not impose any language on anyone. Here, everyone has assured freedom to learn languages, he said, responding to the claims of language imposition through NEP.

Singh said, the university has proposed that all of its colleges implement an "academic bank of credit" beginning with the current academic year (2023-2024). It would allow students to stop taking the course in the middle and finish it when they returned years later.

The Vice-Chancellor said that students can create an account in the Academic Bank of Credits portal and it will act as a storehouse for information. Pondicherry University and its affiliated colleges have created the ABC portal.
