NIA Files Chargesheet Against 3 Bangladeshi Nationals In Rohingya Trafficking Case

The NIA filed two charge sheets naming three Bangladeshis in Tamil Nadu in a case related to the alleged trafficking of persons of Rohingya and Bangladeshi origin as part of a large-scale network.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed two chargesheets on Wednesday, naming three Bangladeshi nationals in Tamil Nadu, in connection with a case involving the trafficking of people of Rohingya and Bangladeshi origin into India as part of a larger network. The accused are identified as Babu SK alias Babu Shoriful alias Md Soriful Babumiya, Shahabuddin Hossain alias Md Sahab Uddin, and Munna alias Noor Karim, the agency said in a statement.

The trio is alleged to have actively engaged in the forgery of Indian documents to conceal their true identities, according to an NIA release.

The NIA, conducting investigations since November 7, 2023, found that Babu SK, in collaboration with other accused, trafficked and received trafficked Bangladesh nationals. He was reportedly facilitating their illegal stay in India without valid documents, and also employed and exploited the victims. Investigations revealed that Babu SK had fabricated and forged his birth certificate, driving license, and fraudulently obtained various Indian identity documents, including a ration card, Aadhaar card, Voter ID, PAN card, and Indian Passport.

As per NIA findings, the other two accused, Shahabuddin Hossain and Munna, both from Chittagong district, illegally entered India with traffickers' assistance.

"They allegedly acquired Aadhaar cards through forged documents and obtained other Indian identity documents, including PAN cards. Additionally, they purchased SIM cards and opened bank accounts using fraudulently obtained documents. Investigations in the case are ongoing," the agency said.

Three Rohingya Men Sentenced To 10 Years For Human Trafficking In Haryana

A court in Haryana's Nuh district has handed down a 10-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to three Rohingya men in a 2021 human trafficking case, according to news agency PTI. Additional district and sessions judge Ajay K Verma pronounced the sentence on Tuesday, along with a fine of Rs 10,000 imposed on each convict.

Public prosecutor Pratap Singh stated that the Child Welfare Committee of Nuh received confidential information in February 2021 about two Bangladeshi women brought to India via Mizoram and Kolkata. The Rohingya man, Mohammad Ayas, brought the women, aged 19 and 20, to Nuh from Delhi.

Later, Mohammad Ayas, along with two other Rohingya men, Hafeez Ahmed and Mohammad Yunus, intended to sell the women in the Kashmir Valley for Rs 70,000 each. Acting on the information, the Child Welfare Committee conducted raids, rescuing the women. Medical examinations revealed that the women were subjected to rape and torture.

An FIR was registered under relevant IPC provisions at the City police station in Nuh, leading to the arrest of the three accused in December 2021. The accused confessed to the crime during the trial, and the prosecution successfully proved all charges, according to the public prosecutor.
