NEET UG 2025: Top-Ranked Medical Colleges In Tamil Nadu – Full List

The 2024 NIRF rankings highlight Tamil Nadu's dominance, featuring top institutions like CMC Vellore (Rank 3) and Madras Medical College (Rank 10).

The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced the NEET UG 2025 results on June 14, marking the start of the admission season for undergraduate medical and dental programs across India. Overall, 12.36 lakh qualified in NEET exams attended by 22.09 lakh students. As admission process has started, Tamil Nadu continues to reinforce its position as a leader in India’s medical education sector.

Known for its strong academic infrastructure, the state currently tops the chart for the highest number of medical colleges in the country for the 2023–24 academic year. According to the Union Health Ministry, 38 government and 36 private institutions are in Tamil Nadu, reported Indian Express.

Tamil Nadu Top Ranked Medical Colleges

Tamil Nadu’s dominance is also reflected in the 2024 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) released by the Ministry of Education. Several top-ranking medical colleges from the state have made it to the prestigious list, as per reports:

Rank 3: Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore

Rank 8: Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore

Rank 10: Madras Medical College and Government General Hospital, Chennai

Rank 12: Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences, Chennai

Rank 18: SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai

Rank 20: Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research, Chennai

Rank 41: PSG Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Coimbatore

Additionally, neighboring Puducherry made its mark with JIPMER (Jawaharlal Institute of Post Graduate Medical Education and Research) securing Rank 5 on the national list, reaffirming its reputation as a premier institute.

Meanwhile, NEET-UG is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and is mandatory for admission to all government and private medical colleges in India, including AIIMS and JIPMER. The exam tests students in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, based on the Class 11 and 12 syllabus.

The NEET exam is typically held once a year, and after the exam, the NTA releases the scorecards and qualifying cut-off marks, which begin the admission and counselling process.
