Mumbai: Fire Breaks Out In Multi-Storey Building In Lower Parel, No Injury Reported

Mumbai Building Fire: This is the third fire incident in a year in Avignon Park building located in Mumbai's Lower Parel area, raising concerns about fire safety protocols.

A major fire broke out on the 14th floor of a multi-storey building in Mumbai's Lower Parel area on Thursday. There are no reports of any injuries as of now. Five fire tenders have been rushed to the sport and efforts are underway to douse the blaze in the Avignon Park building in Currey Road, PTI reproted.

Visuals from the spot showed the floor of the building engulfed in fire and heavy smoke billowing out. The residents of the floor were not present in the flat at the time of the incident.

This is the third fire incident in a year in the building, raising concerns about the fire safety protocols. Locals are also worried after the incident and raised questions regarding norms followed while constructing high-rise buildings.

Angry locals have accused the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation of negligence over the construction of such buildings. They also accused the BMC of not following safety norms.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, according to PTI news agency.

In October 2021, a major fire broke out inside a flat on the 19th floor of the same residential complex, in which a 30-year-old security guard had died while saving others.

Meanwhile, a fire broke out in a food stall on platform number 14/15 of the CSMT railway station on Wednesday morning at 6.45 am, reported Free Press Journal. The fire was brought under control within 10 minutes and no injury or casualty was reported, according to a fire brigade official.

Evaluation of monetary loss due to this fire is underway. “Timely action prevented further damage to the roof of the heritage building,” the report quoted the official as saying.

Operation of 33 CCTV cameras were affected and most of them were restored by the evening, according to a railway source. “Inquiry to determine the cause is underway, prima facie it appears the fire started due to a short circuit in the refrigerator,” a senior officer of CR said.

As per news agency ANI, the flames were later doused and brought under control.
