Kerala: Man Dies After Middle Berth Collapses On Him In Moving Train

The collapsing berth, along with the weight of the passenger, caused significant trauma to Khan's neck, resulting in three fractured bones and weakened limbs.

Ali Khan, a 62-year-old resident of Vadamukku in Maranchery, lost his life after sustaining severe injuries when the middle berth of his train collapsed onto him. The incident occurred last week while Khan was traveling to Delhi. Immediately after the incident, Ali was taken to a nearby hospital and was later shifted to a multispecialty in Hyderabad where emergency surgeries were performed on him. However, Ali succumbed to the injuries.

Last week, the mishap happened as the train reached Warangal in Telangana. The middle berth, occupied by another passenger, suddenly gave way and fell onto Khan, who was lying on the lower berth. The collapsing berth, along with the weight of the passenger, caused significant trauma to Khan's neck, resulting in three fractured bones and weakened limbs, according to a report on Manorama.

Railway authorities acted quickly, taking Khan to a local hospital in Warangal before transferring him to KIMS Multispeciality Hospital in Hyderabad for advanced treatment. Despite undergoing surgery on Friday, Khan did not respond to the treatment and succumbed to his injuries.

A post-mortem examination was conducted on Tuesday. Khan's final rites will be held at Vadamukku in Kunnath Juma Masjid on Wednesday, as per a report on Mathrubhumi.

The cause of the berth collapse remains unclear, and Indian Railways has yet to issue an official response regarding the incident. Investigations are expected to determine the reasons behind this tragic failure and to ensure measures are in place to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

On June 22, an 11-year-old boy died after a toy train overturned resulting in his death at Nexsus Elante Mall in Chandigarh. Following the demise, the driver of the toy train was arrested and later released on bail.
