Indian Coast Guard Rescues Fisherman With Second-Degree Burns Off Kakinada Coast

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Chennai had received a distress call from the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Chennai, on August 6, 2024.

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) rescued a 21-year-old fisherman with second-degree burns on the left side of his body. The incident occurred aboard the Indian Fishing Boat (IFB) Sengalamman, approximately 183 km off the Kakinada coast in Andhra Pradesh, on the night of August 7, 2024.

Taking to X, Indian Coast Guard said, "In a swiftly coordinated #MEDEVAC operation at midnight on 07 Aug 24, @IndiaCoastGuard Ship evacuated an Indian fisherman from #Tamilnadu registered #IFB Sengalamman 183 km East of #Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.  Fisherman had sustained serious thirty percent second-degree burns. #ICG ship provided necessary medical aid enroute and fisherman was admitted to Government General Hospital #Kakinada on arrival. Fisherman is being treated at ICU and reported stable."

The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) Chennai received a distress call from the Assistant Director of Fisheries, Chennai, on August 6, 2024. Acting swiftly, MRCC Chennai redirected the ICG ship Samudra Paheredar to provide immediate assistance. Concurrently, ICG Station Kakinada was informed to prepare necessary medical aid for the fisherman's arrival.

The ICG ship successfully evacuated the injured fisherman from the boat, with the medical officer onboard administering initial treatment to stabilize his condition. Following this, the fisherman was transferred to ICG ship C-430 for the onward journey to Kakinada.

Upon arrival off the Kakinada coast on August 7, the fisherman was further transferred in a joint effort involving the local fisheries and health departments, as well as the Marine Police. He was subsequently admitted to the Government Hospital in Kakinada for comprehensive medical care.
