Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Wayanad on Saturday in the wake of the devastating landslide disaster that has claimed 417 lives so far. PM Modi is anticipated to arrive at Kannur airport via a special flight from Delhi and is likely to travel to Wayanad by helicopter.

Today marks the tenth day of the ongoing search for missing individuals in the aftermath of the Wayanad landslide. Search operations are focused on Sunrise Valley, with dog squads deployed to assist in the efforts. Regular search activities are also being conducted in Churalmala, Mundakayi, and Samalimattam, with the entire area divided into six zones for efficient searching.

Kerala Urges Centre To Declare Wayanad Landslides A National Disaster 

The landslide, which occurred in the early hours of June 30, has left a significant impact on the region. Authorities are currently working to find accommodations for 1,968 people who are sheltering in 16 camps.

The state government is pushing to have the Wayanad landslide declared a national disaster, recognizing its severity. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has called for increased central assistance to aid recovery efforts.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, along with the opposition, has commended the central government for its intervention following the disaster, which included the deployment of the army to assist in relief and rescue operations.

Till now, 3,560 are residing in 30 camps including male (1337), female (1417), children (806), pregnant (10).
