IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall In 4 Maha Districts, Sounds Yellow Alert For Mumbai. CM Shinde Takes Stock — Top Points

The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for districts in the state including Thane, Palghar, Raigad and Ratnagiri while a yellow alert has been issued for Mumbai. 

Heavy rains have been battering various districts of Maharashtra including capital Mumbai throwing life out of gear for the people. On Wednesday, six districts of Maharashtra Marathwada region recorded heavy rainfall As many as 43 circles -- each circle comprising several villages -- recorded rainfall of 65 mm or more on Tuesday. Limbgaon circle in Nanded district recorded the highest rainfall of 153.50 mm in a single day, followed by Golegaon circle which received 133.50 mm rainfall. As many as nine circles received rainfall of more than 100 mm, as per a PTI report. 

Train services on various routes of Central Railways were affected due to waterlogging. The Kalyan-Badlapur stretch was restored after seven hours while services on the Kalyan-Kasara route were up and running after nearly three hours.

  • In view of the heavy rainfall predictions, District Collectors of Gadchiroli and Palghar declared holiday for schools and colleges for Thursday. 
  • Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday visited the BMC Disaster Control room to take stock of the rain situation and the municipal corporation's preparedness. He also gave the necessary instructions to the officers, said his office. 
  • "All the emergency agencies NDRFs, SDRFs & Municipal corperations, everyone is on alert mode. They are working on rescue operations and assure the public gets proper relief facilities. Since this morning I have been in contact with the Secretaries and DMs, and people are being shifted to safe places," said Chief Minister Shinde after reviewing preparedness, reported ANI.
  • "I have ordered the Commissioner of BMC to assure people get back to their homes safely and rescue those who are stuck in the rain," said Shinde.
  • The State Disaster Management Authority declares a holiday for schools in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts on July 20 due to heavy to very heavy rain predictions.
