The fire broke out in the office located near Durgapur city centre at around 2 am when no office staff were present inside the office.

A fire broke out in the office of Asansol Durgapur Development Authority in West Bengal's Durgapur during the early hours of Tuesday. As soon as the fire was reported, 10 fire tenders rushed to the spot and made continuous efforts to extinguish the fire for around 3 hours. An official of the Asansol Durgapur Development Authority said that the situation is now under control. The official informed news agency ANI that many documents that were present in the office during the time of the incident were burnt to ashes.

The fire broke out in the office located near Durgapur city centre at around 2 am when no office staff were present inside the office.

The Chairman of the Asansol Durgapur Development Authority, Tapas Bandopadhyay, said, "The fire broke out at around 2 in the night, after which 10 fire tenders reached the spot. Efforts to extinguish the fire continued till 5 in the morning. The situation is under control now. Due to it being a government office, many documents were present in the office which were burnt to ashes. The cause of the fire is not known. The cooling process is going on."

“The security guards on duty spotted smoke coming out of the office toilet at around 2.10 am on Tuesday and they informed the Durgapur fire department immediately. The fire spread throughout the building in no time and was massive but it was brought under control by about 5.30 am,” Bandhopadhyay added.

Durgapur Sub Divisional Magistrate and City Center outpost police also rushed to the spot when the fire was reported.

Initially, the fire teams assumed that the fire broke out due to a short circuit. However, the exact cause as to what caused the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Earlier on September 1, a massive fire broke out at a factory in the Bodai Industrial area of Bhatpara, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal. A fire tender rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire, reported ANI.
