Delhi Mayor Orders Action Against Coaching Centres Operating In Basements After 3 Students Drown
The Mayor said that strict action should be taken against those coaching centres that are operating in basements which are in violation of building bye-laws and are not as per norms.
Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has directed the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to take strict action against coaching centres across the national capital that are running commercial activities in basements. The move comes as three students died after being stuck in the basement of a popular coaching centre which was inundated amid heavy rains.
The Mayor said that strict action should be taken against those coaching centres that are operating in basements which are in violation of building bye-laws and are not as per norms.
She also directed the MCD Commissioner to take action against any MCD official found guilty in the incident.

"Yesterday some students were trapped in a private coaching institute being run in Rajendra Nagar due to flooding and out of them 3 students lost their lives. This is very shocking, this incident needs thorough investigation and swift and strongest possible action," said the Mayor in a letter to the Commissioner.
"All such coaching centres across Delhi which are under the jurisdiction of MCD and running commercial activities in basements which are in violation of building bye-laws and are not as per norms, strict action should be taken against them immediately," she added.
"Immediate enquiry to conducted to identify if any officers of MCD are responsible for the tragedy If any official is found guilty, strongest possible action be taken against them, under intimation to the undersigned," said the Delhi Mayor.
Delhi minister Atishi has directed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar to initiate an inquiry and submit a report within 24 hours on the incident.
