WATCH: Joe Root's controversial dismissal in Rajkot Test

New Delhi: When India and England meet in a Test match then how can there be shortage of drama? There was ample lot of drama and confusion when England batsman Joe Root was controversially given out caught and bowled to Umesh Yadav at the last session of the game of the first Test at Rajkot. England was in cruise control when Joe Root and Moeen Ali were looking unperturbed in the middle, giving a lot of headache to Indian captain Virat Kohli. The new ball was perhaps the only hope for Virat and he wasted no time in opting for it as soon as it was available. Umesh Yadav was introduced into the attack in the 81st over and got the desired breakthrough for India. But it was the manner in which Joe Root was given out was the topic of discussion for quite some time. Umesh bowled an innocuous delivery to a well settled Joe Root (124), the ball appeared to have just stopped on the batsman and Root ended up playing early, handing a simple catch to Yadav on his follow through.  Yadav, grabbed the ball for a brief second or two and threw it up in the air before even completing the catch. In the process he ended up juggling the ball to the ground. Joe Root, quite understandably refused to leave his crease and on field umpires referred it to the third umpire. Root was eventually given out by the TV umpire but many believed it was controversial as the catch was not completed. This incident brought back memories of the famous Australia-South Africa semi final in World Cup 1999. In the process of trying to celebrate early, Harshelle Gibbs dropped the catch of Australian captain Steve Waugh. Steve Waugh went on to score an important half century to knock South Africa out of the competition.
