Tori Bowie, Former Olympic Champion Sprinter, Passes Away At 32

Tori Bowie Death: The American sprinter had emerged as the world champion in 2017

Tori Bowie, the former 100m world champion sprinter belonging from the United States of America (USA), passed away at 32. The development was confirmed by her management company on Wednesday (May 3). Notably, the American sprinter had emerged as the world champion in 2017. In addition, she had clinched three medals at the Rio Olympic Games in 2016 including an Gold with the relay team.

"We're devastated to share the very sad news that Tori Bowie has passed away," Icon Management posted on microblogging site Twitter.

"We've lost a client, dear friend, daughter and sister. Tori was a champion... a beacon of light that shined so bright! We're truly heartbroken and our prayers are with the family and friends," it added.


The cause of her death is still not known and there was no word on the same from the management company. Tori initially played basketball before switching to track events. She was born in Mississippi.

Bowie got the silver medal when she finished second in the 100m category in the Rio Olympic Games. She was behind Jamaica's Elaine Thompson. This was before she won the world championships in London in the following year. On that occasion, she had clocked a time which less than hundredth of a second better than that of the athlete from Ivory Coast Marie-Josee Ta Lou.

USA Track and stated that Bowie's "impact on the sport is immeasurable" before adding she will be "greatly missed". World Athletics said it was "deeply saddened" by her death in an Instagram post.
