Singapore Open 2022: Mithun Manjunath crashed out of the Singapore Open 2022 after losing to Irish player, Nhat Nguyen, in three sets.
Singapore Open 2022: Mithun Manjunath lost to Nhat Nguyen 10-21, 21-18, 16-21 in Round 2 of the Men’s Singles event of the Singapore Open 2022. Mithun, coming off from a stunning victory over compatriot and World number 7, Kidambi Srikanth, was stunned by the Irish in a 3-set thriller.
The match was held at the Singapore Indoor Stadium Court 3 and the 24-year-old made a comeback in the second set, after losing the first one. But Nhat prevailed to the quarter-finals as he managed to dash an Indian hope in the tournament.
Elsewhere, HS Prannoy stunned World Number 3, Chou Tien Chen, from Chinese Taipei 14-21, 22-20, 21-18 to advance to the quarter-finals as he remains the only active Indian contender in the Men’s Singles event.
In the women’s singles event, Ashmita Chaliha bowed out in the Round 2 stage at the Han Yue, who will be facing Indian badminton star, an Olympic medallist and World number 3, PV Sindhu, who is coming off from a hard-fought victory against Thuy Linh Nguyen from Vietnam 19-21, 21-19, 21-18.
Saina Nehwal also progressed to the second round after a straight sets victory over compatriot Malvika Bansod 21-18, 21-14 in the Women’s Singles event.
In the Men’s Doubles event, the pair of M.R. Arjun, and Dhruv Kapila have advanced to e quarter finals and will face a stern test against World number 2 Singapore’s pair of Mohammad Ahsan and Hendra Setiawan.
The matches will take place on July 14, Thursday.
