The 38-year-old broke Charlotte Edwards' record of 10273 runs in the 24th over while chasing a target of 220 runs in the third ODI against England. Mithali made a new world record by hitting a four off fast bowler Nat Sciver. New Zealand's Suzie Bates is at number three in the list of highest run-scorers with 7849 runs.

At the 11th edition of the World Cup on July 12, 2017, Mithali had surpassed Charlotte Edwards to become the highest run-scorer in ODIs. In a match against Australia, she became the first woman cricketer to score 6000 runs in ODI format.

Mithali scored fifty in the first two matches of the three-match ODI series against England. The star player has scored 57 fifties in ODIs. Mithali Raj retired from T20 cricket in the year 2019.
