Former Liverpool and England footballer and now a commentator, Jamie Carragher revealed that Lionel Messi once called him a donkey on Instagram's personal chat. 

Talking on Sky Sports, Carragher said that he had once spoken about how Messi signing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) is not a smart signing. Lionel Messi did not take kindly to this statement by Carragher and hastily DM'ed him on Instagram. As per Carragher, Messi ended up calling him a donkey.

Carragher, along with Gary Neville were picking up their favorite XI of the year. Jamie left out the Argentine great, Messi from his team. In the same conversation, Jamie Carragher said, "It was on Monday Night Football and I got a private message on Instagram, from the man [Messi] himself. I will not be showing private messages but he basically called me a donkey."

Explaining more about his reason to omit Messi from his Best XI for 2021, Carragher said, "You haven't played well enough, even if you did win the Copa America in the summer. It's not enough to leave my man Mo Salah out the team."

Carragher and Neville, both kept Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi out of their Best 2021 XIs. Messi will be facing Real Madrid in the Champions League Round of 16 on February 16.
