Virat Kohli Not To Lose Any Money Despite Being Imposed Imposed A Fine Of 100 Per Cent Match Fees: Report

Virat Kohli's per match IPL fee comes down to around 1.7 crore. But the big question is will he have to pay that sum after the fine imposed by the BCCI?

Virat Kohli was recently imposed a fine worth 100 per cent of his match fees for his on-field spat with Gautam Gambhir. The incident took place during Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) home match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Ekana Stadium on May 1 (Monday). After the match, Kohli and Gambhir were seen involved in a heated exchange and were docked 100 per cent of their match fees.

Assuming Bangalore play 14 matches this season and with Kohli's yearly IPL salary amounting to Rs15 crore, his per match fee will come down to around 1.7 crore. The big question thus comes down to whether it will be that sum which Kohli will have to pay after being found guilty of breaching IPL's code of conduct.

A report carried by Cricbuzz confirms that Kohli will not have to pay a single penny from his pocket as his franchise will settle the fine on his behalf. "Players put their bodies on the line for the team and we respect that and as a culture we don't cut the fine from their salaries," an RCB source told Cricbuzz.

The same report has claimed that the exact renumeration of Gambhir as the franchise's mentor is not known. However, it is likely that even Gambhir might not to have to pay his fine as and it might be LSG who could pay his dues.

It is being learnt that post the conclusion of a season, the BCCI sends an invoice for all the fines that have been imposed on a team and the franchise then has to pay for it. Whether or not they decide to deduct it from a player's salary is the team management's internal call.

However, with franchises stepping in the whole rationale of imposing a fine on player loses purpose as it fails to act as a deterrent. There is a point of view which suggests that individuals should be held accountable for their own actions- no matter it is Kohli or Gambhir.
