Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Still Alive In IPL 2024 Playoffs Race, Can Make It To Top Four

RCB still have a mathematical chance to qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs, although it's a slim one. RCB have three more league stage matches remaining, against PBKS (May 9), DC (May 12) and CSK (May 18).

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) IPL 2024 Playoffs Scenarios: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) secured a crucial win against two-time IPL finalists Gujarat Titans (GT) in their IPL 2024 match held on Saturday (May 4) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium. This win keeps RCB in contention for the IPL 2024 playoffs. It marked RCB's fourth win out of 11 matches in the season and third consecutive win in the tournament. RCB jumped from the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table to the seventh position.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) achieved a 4-wicket win over Gujarat Titans (GT) with 38 balls remaining which boosted their net run rate, a crucial factor in their push for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs. Faf du Plessis-led RCB endured a tough start to IPL 2024 season with just one win from their first seven games but their recent back-to-back three wins in the second-half have given their fans some positivity and hope.

Can Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Still Qualify For Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Playoffs?

With the top four teams at the end of league stage progressing to IPL 2024 playoffs, RR with 16 points and KKR with 14 points are believed to have nearly secured the top two spots. Meanwhile, over five teams are competing for the remaining two playoff berths.

RCB still have a mathematical chance to qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs, although it's a slim one. They have three more league stage matches remaining, against Punjab Kings (May 9), Delhi Capitals (May 12), and Chennai Super Kings (May 18).

Winning all three matches could potentially get RCB to a maximum of 14 points, and if they manage to secure victories with significant margins, it could greatly improve their net run rate. Typically, a team requires at least 16 points to have any chance to make it to playoffs.

In such a scenario, RCB, with 14 points, would also need both Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants to not win more than one match in their final four games. Lucknow and Hyderabad both have 12 points each from 10 games.

RCB also need CSK (10 points) and DC (10 points) to not win more than two matches from here onwards.

To bolster RCB's playoffs qualification chances, it would be beneficial if Gujarat Titans (8 points) and Punjab Kings (8 points) do not secure more than three wins in their remaining matches. Like RCB, GT and PBKS also currently have 8 points.

If these scenarios unfold, the net run rate (NRR) will become crucial, likely leading to a situation where as many as six teams could finish on 14 points at the end of the league stage.

Considering the unlikelihood of all the scenarios mentioned above turning into reality, it's safe to conclude that RCB's hopes for the IPL 2024 playoffs are all but over!
