In reply, the GT batters provided the side with a dynamic start, as Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan did not let the likes of Marco Jansen and others settle in.

Before the dismissal of Jos Buttler, it was looking like GT were on their way to a historic chase, but incredible death overs bowling enabled PBKS to snatch an 11-run win against the hosts.

Shreyas Iyer Reflects On Impressive Win Vs GT

Shreyas lyer (Punjab Kings Captain & Player of the Match):

"Delighted to be honest. Getting my 97* in my first match for a new franchise and that too in the opening game of the season is icing on the cake for me."

"Yeah it was important for me to go ahead and adapt as quick as possible. I got a boundary in my first ball and it gave me a lot of confidence. Also that flick six of Rabada. Also, Priyansh Arya played a brilliant knock. I was talking to him on how important timing is in this wicket. I think we adapted pretty quickly."

"(On Shashank Singh) You see, he scored 44 runs in just 17-18 odd balls. That was pretty crucial for the team. Getting those extra 40 runs after 200 was very important for us. With the dew coming in, we knew that the scenario will be changing. The way he performed was just brilliant."

"(On Vyshak Vijaykumar) To be honest, he is a funny character. His attitude is stupendous. Credit goes to him with the way he kept his calm and executed his plans pretty well. It was magnificent to watch from outside."

"I think Arshdeep played an important role out there. He walked up to me and said that the ball was reversing a bit. So the saliva was kind of helping the bowlers as well. So he came in with a plan of bowling wide yorkers and that helped us a lot."

"See before the season, we worked really hard in terms of preparation. Everyone chipped in during the team meeting and I feel all of these small aspects turns out to be very important for us and I feel as a team we did a good job tonight."
