KL Rahul Only 43 Runs Away From Breaking Virat Kohli’s All-Time T20 Record

KL Rahul is just 43 runs away from surpassing Virat Kohli's all-time T20 runs record.

KL Rahul will be in action for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 55th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on May 5 (Monday) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. The star India wicket-keeper batter has enjoyed a decent IPL 2025 season so far. Not long ago, he became the fastest player to reach 4000 runs in IPL history and now he's on the verge of surpassing Virat Kohli's T20 record.

KL Rahul is just 43 runs shy of reaching 8000 runs in T20 cricket and will have a chance to achieve the feat against SRH on Monday in Hyderabad. Once he gets there, Rahul will surpass Virat Kohli’s mark of 243 innings to become the fastest Indian to reach the milestone.

Rahul has amassed 7,957 runs in 222 T20 innings at an average of 42.32 and a strike rate of 136.29, including six centuries and 68 half-centuries, along with 672 fours and 327 sixes. Once he reaches 8,000 runs, he will become the third-fastest batter to achieve the milestone in T20 cricket, trailing only Chris Gayle and Babar Azam.

Chris Gayle holds the record as the fastest to reach 8,000 T20 runs, achieving the feat in just 213 innings, followed by Babar Azam, who got there in 218 innings.

KL Rahul has so far scored 371 runs in 9 matches in the IPL 2025 season, with an impressive batting average of 53.00 and a strike rate of 146.06. Rahul has also hit 29 fours and 16 sixes so far in the tournament. Despite playing fewer matches than some of the top run-scorers, he remains one of the standout performers for Delhi Capitals.
