Delhi Capitals (DC) has officially appointed Axar Patel as their new captain with just eight days left for Indian Premier Legaue (IPL) 2025. The franchise announced the decision through a video on its social media platforms.

Axar was in contention for the role alongside KL Rahul, but the management ultimately placed its trust in him to lead the team this season. This move has sparked curiosity among fans regarding Axar's captaincy experience and his track record as a leader.

Axar Patel's captaincy record

Axar Patel has been the vice-captain of Delhi Capitals (DC) for the past few seasons but had limited opportunities to lead the side. Last year, he captained the team in just one match when Rishabh Pant was suspended due to a slow over-rate.

However, Delhi Capitals (DC) suffered a 47-run defeat against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in that game. Apart from Indian Premier Legaue (IPL), Axar also led Gujarat in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy last year.

In his overall T20 captaincy record, Axar has led his team in 17 matches, securing 10 wins and facing 7 losses. While his leadership experience is limited, his winning percentage suggests promise.

Individually, Axar has performed well as a captain, scoring 364 runs in 17 matches at an average of 36.40 and a strike rate of 144.44. His highest score of 57 came against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in last year's IPL. He has also registered two half-centuries while leading his side.
