IPL 2025 Final: Rishi Sunak Reveals The Team He's Backing

Sunak spoke about his love for cricket, saying he watches IPL matches whenever he gets time.

As Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) gear up to face Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, a familiar name from global politics will be in the stands supporting them - former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

In a recent interview with The Times of India, Sunak shared his affection for the franchise, revealing, “I belong to a Bangalore family, so Royal Challengers Bangalore is my favorite team.”

Sunak’s connection to Bengaluru is personal - his wife, Akshata Murty, is the daughter of Infosys co-founder N. R. Narayana Murthy, and hails from the city that serves as RCB’s home base. Given those ties, Sunak’s support for the team feels natural.

“RCB Is More Than a Team, It’s an Emotion”

Sunak spoke about his love for cricket, saying he watches IPL matches whenever he gets time. Reflecting on RCB’s passionate fanbase, he remarked, “This team is not just a cricket team - it’s an emotion.” His comment resonates deeply with millions of RCB fans who have stood by the team despite its elusive quest for a title.

He also revealed a cherished piece of memorabilia - a bat signed by Virat Kohli, gifted to him by India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.

RCB’s Strong Campaign

RCB, led this season by Rajat Patidar, finished second in the league stage, securing nine wins in 13 matches. They sealed their place in the final after a commanding win over Punjab Kings in the first qualifier in New Chandigarh.

Now, as they aim to break their long-standing title drought, the backing of prominent supporters like Rishi Sunak adds an emotional boost to their historic campaign.

Will this finally be the year RCB lifts their maiden IPL trophy? With momentum, belief - and global support - the stage is set.
